Can sandals be worn on all occasions?
Sandals yes, Sandals no?
Summer is coming, the days are getting longer and the climate is decidedly warmer. Trips out of town and days of pleasure are becoming more and more commonplace and certainly a good pair of shoes can make the difference, whether it's a gala evening, a weekend at the seaside or a trip to the mountains, we have what it takes for you! Why can't you always opt for sandals in the heat? It's not that you can't, there are simply (as with everything) certain points that you may or may not choose to follow. I'm here to tell you what sandal etiquette would like! This type of footwear drives us crazy when the first warm weather starts to arrive and it becomes one of our best friends. However, sandals should not always be worn, as there are situations in which they are banned by etiquette. To give you a practical example, during the day, in the office, stiletto heels or jeweled sandals should never be worn. In general, at work the sandal turns out to be unprofessional and unelegant.
Let's start with wide-heeled sandals: these are the ideal companions for everyday life, to be worn when the dress code required by the situation is not elegant. Theoretically it should not exceed 5/6 centimeters, as for each heel to be worn from dawn to dusk: it is very easy to go wrong, I know something about it!
Stiletto heel sandals, however, should only be worn in the evening, unless you are invited to daytime ceremonies. In the latter case then they are fine.
In general, in fact, sandals are seen as less than elegant shoes to wear during the day! Have you ever seen Queen Elizabeth or Kate Middleton wearing a pair of sandals during the day? No. And do you know why? Because for etiquette, it is inelegant and wrong to show your toes.
In fact, according to shoe etiquette, sandals can only be worn for events after sunset. The only concession is made for daytime ceremonies, as already mentioned, and for sandals with wide heels (but even here we are at the limit).
A question that many ask me is: can you wear sandals in winter? Why not? If you put away your sandals as soon as summer ends, you're doing it wrong. If, in fact, you continue to wear it on the right occasions, such as an elegant dinner or a party, sandals combined with a long dress are more than fine.
I now want to return to a concept we talked about at the beginning of this informal chat... If there is one place where it is absolutely wrong to wear sandals, it is the office. Never wear open sandals to meetings, meet clients, and so on. At work the foot should always be covered, for reasons of elegance, refinement and education.
Now don't get angry... I'll tell you another thing that etiquette requires, then clearly everyone chooses for themselves and here I already know the answer of many of you! According to the label, in fact, sandals, on formal occasions, should always be worn with tights, even in summer, as well as pumps . This rule is becoming forgotten, however shoe etiquette requires it, so for those who want to be criticism-proof they can combine the sandal with a thin pantyhose sock.
In conclusion, I want to reiterate that these are simple dictates that are not absolutely mandatory to follow, I hope I have made you curious.
