In 1968, Mario Giannini founded an artisanal luxury footwear production workshop called "Ducale".

The name itself reflected the goal of creating high-quality objects for a noble clientele. Located in central Italy, the workshop was inspired by the rich tradition of arts and crafts that flourished during the era of the medieval duchies.

In just five years, the laboratory transformed into a company and in 1973 Doucal's was born, an Englishized name to express the style and quality of Italian footwear that was inspired by English tradition.

The influence of English craftsmanship

Mario Giannini went to Northampton, in the English shoe manufacturing district, for an internship on handmade Goodyear manufacturing.

During this experience, he learned the secrets of different constructions and the rules of the English style, which had a significant influence on the European market in the 1970s.

Returning to Italy, Mario Giannini instilled in his company the dedication and respect for the craftsmanship that he had seen and appreciated in English factories.

Despite the British influence, Doucal's remained and continues to be an Italian company with a passion for the beauty, softness and lightness of footwear.

Gianni, responsible for image and product, takes care of the style of the shoes, while Jerry, financial and commercial director, takes care of the economic and strategic aspect of the company. Together, the Giannini brothers carry on the artisan tradition and commitment to footwear excellence.

Italy is divided into 21 production districts, each specialized in a specific sector. Montegranaro, in the province of Fermo, is the district of men's footwear, where shoes still require over 100 steps by hand.

In recent years, many companies have moved to industrial areas, but Doucal's has chosen a counter-trend idea: the widespread factory. Production is located in six old factories that have been redeveloped and connected to each other, without distorting the original architecture of the village.
