The History of Red Wing Shoes

The brand was founded by Charles H. Beckman in 1905.
Red Wing Shoes has deep roots in the city of the same name, in Minnesota.

Beckman, a visionary shoe merchant, identified the need for sturdy, durable footwear for workers, who until then had been wearing inadequate footwear for the rigors of their daily work.

His insight led to large-scale workwear creations, initially aimed at the region's farmers and grain growers, who began wearing the durable, "manure-proof" Black & Brown Chief Shoes.

Then the First World War broke out and Red Wing Shoes adapted to the new needs, producing the "Pershing Boot" for the American army, which is nothing more than a boot that did not let water or humidity in and protected from the cold.

This was just the beginning of a long series of successes, which saw the company expand into various sectors, from the production of boots for the oil industry to riding boots and leisure footwear.

Moments of crisis: RED WING NEVER GIVEN UP!

There was the War, the Great Depression, subsequent dark years, but Red Wing never stopped innovating.

The introduction of rubber soles in the 1920s and the production of affordable footwear allowed the company to overcome periods of crisis, maintaining the promise of quality and durability.

The 1950s then ushered in the era of the Irish Setter Sport Boots and Moc-Toe , which became symbols of the transition from purely work footwear to leisure style icons.

Red Wing and Super Mario: An Iconic Encounter

In a surprising fusion of traditional craftsmanship and pop culture, Red Wing recently collaborated with the Super Mario Bros. franchise to recreate the famous mustachioed plumber's iconic ankle boots.

This collaboration was born on the occasion of the release of the Super Mario Bros animated film and saw the artisans of Red Wing handcraft a faithful reproduction of Mario's boots, demonstrating once again the versatility that characterizes the brand.

It is a bridge between the world of fashion and that of video games, highlighting how the American brand remains at the center of cultural and stylistic attention.
